So there is definitely some debate on asparagus but I'd like to know different opinions :x3: , Can Nova have COOKED asparagus?

Asparagus is fine to feed your bird - raw or cooked. Just keep in mind that it has natural diuretic properties and may have a tendency to dehydrate your bird.

I had heard a story (cant remember where now sorry) that a bird was fed asparagus and died from eating it. Personally I wouldn't risk it when there are so many other yummy healthy foods that can be fed.

Except that asparagus is on all of the safe foods lists.
I wish I could remember where I read this it was either somewhere on the internet or in a bird magazine, they fed it as it was on the safe food list but ended badly. Perhaps it was a bird that has a particular allergy or was fed in a large amount that it caused an issue I'm not sure.

I've read different things about it, I'm still on the fence about it and if she gets diarrhea I'll freak so no asparagus for little miss thing. :) I'm just trying to find new recipes for fresh and cooked foods since I seem to have gotten the only picky eating macaw in the world

It really scares me, but she's so interested when I eat it that I feel bad and I've almost completely cut it from my diet. But it's one of my favorite foods o_O and she actually munches out on so little that it's hard for me to find something she'll get excited about. She's spoiled rotten. I've only recently narrowed out her diet BC she started rejecting the healthy and only eating the treats. Can't have that:eek:

You do want to wash it really, really well. I soak all of my bird's vegetable in a solution of F-10. Aparagus grows in wet ground where fungus is prevalent (my personal bugaboo is Aspergillosis and where asparagus grows is perfect for that).

I've given my tiel a little bit of asparagus and haven't had any issues. But it's a once in a while thing. It's not one of his veggie staples like broccoli. :)

I have offered some cooked asparagus to Kazoo he is the only one to eat it. He just gets a piece of it. He will eat anything, he likes alittle bit of steamed artichoke too. Very small quantities of things are okay. Just use your best judgement with fresh foods. Dark leafy green is good, but red, yellow and orange colored vegetables are better.

I soak/rinse all fresh foods in Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar.

That is how bad information gets out there. There is nothing wrong with feeding asparagus, cooked or raw.
