In the grocery store the other day I came across this nifty hand out.

I wish mine liked them - both the CAG and the GCC turn their beaks up - the raccoon and I are the only ones here that eat them!Leroy does all the getting into for the rest of my friends. We have a pomigranite seed wall in no time at all and it has to be washed off quickly or it sticks like glue!
I don't think so Kristen - they have a tougher skin almost like corn and they are in the water for a short time - just to allow the pithy part to float to the top - makes it easier to remove than peeling the little pieces offThat's pretty interesting. I always make a huge mess when opening pomegranates. I wonder if soaking the "arils" takes away any of the flavor or nutrition. Hmmm.
it is not so messy if you do not cut so deeply across the top - a shallower cut allows access and the pithy material around the seeds breaks readilyI have the exact same handout. I tried it and it didnt work too well for me it was such a juicy mess. But I do like the part about putting the arils in the water to seperate them though it seemed to work pretty well.
I may have to give it a try again. about how far down did you cut?it is not so messy if you do not cut so deeply across the top - a shallower cut allows access and the pithy material around the seeds breaks readily
I opened one this week without getting juice everywhere (not saying that I can do it again though LOL )
maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch - you can always make a little deeper cut if the first one is too shallow - you just want to be able to get in - I pretty much pulled it apart after the first cut and popped the seeds out into a bowl
