We will be back to the vet hopefully today with Sif. Her right foot that has the “J” hook is splitting open and getting infected and then closing over and resplitting. It’s left us with little choice but to head to the vet to see if it can be managed or if it should be amputated. If not today then we should be in to see the doctor in the next couple.:cautious::dead:

:angel1: Keeping my :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: that it can be taken care of without amputation. :goodluck:

Eck! You can see how tired and stressed I am. It’s not the whole foot. It’s the toe with the “J” hook. Sorry!

I hope so. I think amputation is the solution :(
I can’t see it doing anything but continually splitting open and reinfecting like it is doing now. Not sure how that could be stopped otherwise.

Hope that there is another solution besides amputation but if not hope all goes well with that if it's the only option.

It’s not unexpected. It was a judgment call the first time around when her other toe was partially removed. I don’t regret too much it wasn’t done then because she did learn how to use her right foot to eat.

Sif had severe constriction the toe which will continue to happen and eventually it will be required to be removed. Instead of going through the hugely stressful procedure that we did today that left Sif hyperventilating so badly I was surprised she didn’t pass out and she will have surgery next week to remove a portion of the toe. Until then we have antibiotic ointment & pain med.

Yes. I really can’t take another session like yesterday. I came very close to saying something unforgivable to the vet. I opted to keep my mouth shut & know that she will never touch my fids again. At some point the constriction would be bad enough to almost self amputate anyway. :(

:(
Ugh I had a similar situation when a vet called me into his dirty room, and requested I put my dog on his dirty table. I refused and he proceeded to check my dogs hips and the floor, but got really rough with him.
Worst vet visit of my life. He even accused me of giving him a fake Xray, yet it was sent from another vets office. Pilloc.

Defo best getting it sorted before she pulls it off herself poor girl :(

It is.:sad1: That’s why I insisted on Pain medicine along with the topical antibiotics. I refused internal antibiotics because it’s seems a lot of birds get sick from it :scared2: and the topical will work for a week until the toe gets sorted. :elefant:

Oh I'm sorry for all this! I hope shes Ok & can wait to March. I'm just wondering, are they trying to get rid of the infection before the surgery? Is that the delay? It looks so painful!

I was delaying to wait for my daughter to get back. That way Sif won’t have to wear a collar as she would have 24h monitoring. Right now she would be stuck in a collar after surgery for 1/2 of the day.
Thank You
