Hi, everyone.
Today, Birdie acted very strangely. She was extremely nippy, and I noticed (while cleaning her cage) that she had chewed on her wooden perch. It's only a dowel, a standard one that came with the cage, but she's never really chewed it before now. The wood of the perch is all chewed up, like termites came and ate it.

Should I be worried? If it helps, Birdie is about 6-7 months old and is still molting.

At her age it is not hormones. Does she have wooden toys to chew on? It is very important for parrots to have wood to chew. Also, does she have other perches? The dowel perches are not great for her feet. Have you looked at any of the natural perches? It is very common for birds to chew on their perches. She will most likely do so for the rest of her life.

Yes, she does have lots of chewing toys. She also has a natural wood perch, a cement perch, and a rope perch.

That is good. She will start chewing more now that she is getting older. Just watch out that she does not chew any important papers.
