Are fox nuts safe for parrots?

Just a question my mom had cause she was eating fox nuts and wondered if we could give it to Cookie, our cockatiel.

I had a real quick look but didn’t find anything about fox nuts- turns out that they go by quite a few different names, hopefully someone else will know (I’ve never heard of them) but if you get no answers I’ll do my best to search later. @Mizzely is amazing with food info as well as researching so she might know or find something before I do if you’re lucky.

If you can´t find a solid answer that they are safe, don´t give them to your bird. You could try asking your vet

I had the same issue. I’m surprised at how many names they’re known by. I spent a while looking but also found absolutely nothing regarding their safety for parrots.

And yeah until I know for sure if they are safe, I'm not gonna give Cookie any fox nuts.

I have eaten them too, yum yum! Never given it to the birds though, soo I have no idea. They taste best with salt.....

What plant are they from? I've never heard of them.

According to Siri fox nuts are in the lilly family. I believe its a plant.

Wow! A member of the lily family that isn't wildly poisonous, who'd have thought?

I can't find confirmation about birds, but I did see that dogs can and do eat them. I looked at the nutritional breakdown and found nothing alarming, but I'd err on the side of caution were I you. When in doubt, leave them out.
