HacattaI am very pleased to announce this month's showcased member Hacatta!
This will be a bedroom set up, seeing as they share my bedroom.
~ What kind of birds do you have and how many birds did you design your setup for?
I have 4 conure's,a cinnamon (Kiva), rose crowned (fury), hybrid (Hope) and a yellow-sided (pixel).
I also share a orange wing amazon (Elmo) with my parents.
2~ Is your setup for a handicapped bird?
No.
3~ Are there any budgeting tips you discovered while doing your setup?
I bought my java trees on sale, also 2 of my large trees were made for me by a friend of my mothers for free.
My hanging playgym's are made by a couple who have very fair prices.
4~ Is your setup changeable or stationary and do you add or make changes continually or do things stay primarily as is?
I usually change things when i get something new, and just try to find the best places for it.
But really i just try to cram everything i buy in there.
5~ Where did you find your materials if you made it yourself or where did you purchase the setup and do you have favorite places to purchase safe toys and/or supplies that you find reliable?
Most of my basis pieces are handmade by people who enjoy it as a hobby.
We have one big pet store here, while they have a large inventory it doesn't change much and i am pretty difficult with what i find safe, they do have a few more natural toys now, which makes me happy because buying the same toys over and over again was getting frustrating.
We do have some other webshops but they all carry almost the same things.
Toy parts aren't really sold here, just a few things, and mostly just wooden beads, my birds love shredders so that doesn't work.
6~ Do you have a favorite item that you bought for your setup?
At the moment i really love my net,i have hung a lot of avian stainless toys on it,i love how my birds run on it trying to make an orkest.
We have dubbed it :The dream-catcher.
7~ If you made any DIY toys what is your bird(s) favorite and were there any failures?
Lot's of failures, my birds only like easy shredders, hard wood doesn't even get touched.
They prefer things that shred fairly easy.
8~ Did you incorporate into your setup any foraging toys and how did your bird(s) take to them and was age or inactivity a factor?
Unfortunately my birds never really got the idea of foraging,my yellow sides has as the only one discovered that there are treats in the little brown boxes.
I am still trying with the acrylic ones but after 5 years still no luck.
Wrapping treats in coffee filters or paper worked but....they rather trow the paper in their water bowl and eat it,so they are not getting those anymore.
9~ What difficulties did you encounter, if any, and how did you remedy them?
Elmo(amazon)is able to reach the cages so i have to pull the trees out of the way when he is up in my room.
And cover my bed up with a sheet so i won't have a surprise when i go to bed.
10~ What do you like least about your set up (if anything)?
My wallpaper,it has met it's end.
11~ What do you like most about your setup?
Thanks to the ropes on the ceiling my birds and even the amazon are able to go to almost every set-up they want.
They can play where ever they want,i just love looking around and see where they are now.
12~ Did your bird(s) take to the setup right away or did they approach it tentatively needing time to adjust and do you feel their age was a factor?
My birds are very curious so at the most it takes a few hours to get used to it.
13~ Any future renovations planned?
For now i think i have done all i can with the space but when i get my own apartment people be better ready.
