In particular the green tinged ones and the brick colors stones? These are from Marbella beach in Spain. BScoot grey tosses them around but also nibbles at them though I don’t think he can make a dent in them. Anyway I’d like to make sure they are safe to play with mineral content wise.
I googled half heartedly lol
@Zara?

Although it's a bit tough to tell through a photo, you seem to have polished pieces of granite and quartz. The red stones I'd have to hold in my hand and look at through a loop.

Thanks! They are shiny because I had just washed them. Polished by waves on the beach

Most dense rocks/minerals that have elements you’d want your birds far away from (like the heavy metals) will taste bad. According to the FIL who is a geologist, the soft rocks/minerals should be more the worry. Talc, gypsum, some bentonites… etc, those are the ones to avoid.
So lick them. If they taste bad, don’t give to birds. And if they’re soft, don’t give them to birds.

… according to the family geologist, we all should be licking our rocks. Best way to see their colors and a good use of sensory perception to identify. Who knew??:rockon:
Groan! :wacky:
thanks to your FIL for the expert input.
*mentally gets in gear to taste rocks*

Some rocks/minerals contain iron so be careful.
Never licked rocks but would spray them with water to
get a better idea of the color and to possibly determine
what they were.
