I had a dog that had EPI, in other words, he couldn't digest food. He needed medical enzymes to survive.

My vet diagnosed him after I begged for the test, she felt the problem was IBS.

Once diagnosed I asked for the enzymes, she didn't have them. I asked for a prescription to get them online.

She said she doesn't give out prescriptions! Only after I blew my top, and 'loudly' asked if she was going to let my boy starve to death without them...did she finally write me one.

I think only because the vet was full of people, did I get that written prescription. She didn't want me to keep voicing my outrage.

So no...IMO it's not a useless law. I was almost denied medicine for my boy because of an a jerk of a vet.

I know a person who was refused a prescription because the vet wanted to sell the meds. They were cheaper online and when finally the vet agreed to write that prescription? Would only do it for 30 days worth at a time (shipping expenses made it not so affordable to get over the internet).

There's a vet here in a lower socioeconomic part of town with basically no competition who charges a $20 prescription writing fee. Which is completely pricing any of his clients out of the ability to price shop.

@macawpower58 - Remember, that a vet is already required to give a prescription to any client who asks for it. Your vet was/is obviously a jerk and having a law wouldn't cure that characteristic. They can right now be reported to the state board if they refuse to write a prescription when requested.

Wow. Some jerks out there.
I've known a few, but never had this particular problem.
