This hurts to type. Tonight when my partner went to change the birds’ water before covering them, he found Ani at the bottom of the cage barely alive. We rushed him to the emergency vet, but he had aspirated on something and unfortunately we were too late. My perfect little guy has passed away and I am devastated. I am so sorry, Ani.

Thank you. He had such a good day today, sitting in the sun and hanging out. It feels so unreal that he’s gone. He has a box of toys arriving for him tomorrow as he’d just starting getting into some more tricky foraging. He was such a sweetheart and I miss him so much. We’re about to move house in a week or so, so I am worried about how Luna is going to handle the next few months. We’ll manage.

Luna has been calling for him all day. I decided to move Ani’s old cage from our last house up to my room so she could hang out with me and not be locked up alone (my sisters are moving house this weekend so she couldn’t really be out). She’s doing better up here, but it’s hard for me to see all of Ani’s old stuff and not hear him squawking and flapping around. His foraging toys arrived today. My partner had been playing games with him while working from home (he spent most of his time out with my partner while he worked) and taught him how to navigate various obstacles to get seeds. It was becoming too easy so I spent some money on something more difficult for him to figure out. Not really Luna’s thing so it will have to wait for another bird. We’ve organised for him to be cremated this morning. I miss him and his little smile so much.

I remember how helpless I felt and how difficult it was watching my current dog searching the house and yard and waiting for my poor old man dog who I had to have put to sleep. She got excited any time she found something with his scent on it and I found it so hard not being able to explain it all to her, then when she finally must have realized he was not coming home I watched her look for his things sniff them like she was trying to inhale them forever then go and sulk, she did this non stop for months and it was so hard to watch.

I am so sorry you lost Ani and I am hurting for you knowing you are having to watch Luna now trying to work it all out. Animals fill our heats so full and can also deflate them more than we think is possible
