Hi all - I’ve been lurking on some forums lately as looking at adopting a parrot and gathering info on different species.

im curious to hear how the Alexandrine owners handle their tails! How do you set their cages up and what carriers do you use?

Wouldn’t want to see the lovely tail of one damaged if I didn’t house it right!

I have never had an Alexandrine parakeet, but I would assume that it is the same as taking care of a macaw's tail. There are many threads that show members' setups for their macaws in the macaw section.

Hang toys closer to the sides of the cage or more on one side, letting open space on the other side. You can add more toys later as the bird ages. Even then it's up to the bird to take care of it's tail. Macaws often break their tails feathers or have them a major mess until they are age 2 or 3.
