I wanted to pass this warning along to everyone. Please DO NOT use an air fryer around your birds. Someone posted on FB that one hour after using her new air fryer 3 of her 4 birds died from Teflon toxicity.

It would not be all air fryers, it would be some. Like any product you have to do your research before buying.

Common teflon products include

Pans, bakeware, coffee pots, toaster ovens, waffle makers, microwave popcorn bags, curling irons, hair dryers, irons, ironing boards, woks, rice cookers, slow cookers and more.

:sorrow:

Thats sad & scary. So many household appliances may unknowingly have teflon & sometimes its not easy to check on the model from the manufacturer especially for older models.

So sorry for those birds & there owner.

@Rolanda Since you have a family, you will want to get the larger model, the smaller one is for one or two people

Thanks for the warning. I tried my brother's air fryer while I was in NY (Bella wasn't there) and wasn't impressed.

I also read that. Her four gorgeous birds. She tried so hard to save them but it was too late.

I just used mine yesterday....
The birds are in another room, but I won't be using again and am going to question my vet about it today.
I just did not think about it at all. Thanks for posting.

What the heck is an air fryer?
It's essentially a convection oven that circulates super heated air around oil-coated food. I'm so wary of any small appliance that gets super hot. I use what I know is safe!

Sadly, I was watching responses from the company saying it does not kill birds on FB. If it has teflon and heats, yes it will.

I would guess that if you have a convection oven with a rack it would have very similar results to an air fryer. The air fryer might work at higher temps, so there could be a difference. I admit that I am not skilled at cooking, so someone else could tell the difference between convection and air fryer, it would be interesting to know. Most convictions are combo microwave/convection. They are usually all stainless steal usually no Teflon, but I would would call manufacturer before risking it.

Scary world we live in.

Recently got into a disagreement with an engineer over PTFE and PFOA. Told him to call an avian vet and ask them.....I didn't care what research said.

Microwave popcorn bags? I use those! Are there just certain kinds that have Teflon?
