Random question,
Are anyone else's African dwarf frogs violent? Mine have a giant tank all to themselves because they kill everything. They are not hungry they get bloodworms and flakes fed to them with a turkey baster, I make sure they eat lots and have to be careful cause they get fat. But they will still eat the fins off of fish and kill things! They also fight when the female is full of eggs and try to strangle each other. They are really aggressive with everything. I also have to put the babies into a separate tank cause the parents hop into the breeding net and eat their children! I tried separating the males but it makes no difference, they pick on the female too. Thankfully they have a ton of room to move away from the instigators.

Google suggested these guys are sweet and good in community tanks. I did a lot of research and didn't find anything about this behavior.

I have had them for 5 years and really like them, they always have a good home here in their pirate ship. Just curious why they are so violent. :shake::slapfight:

I just had a quick read up of one article I found and it seems their life span in captivity is approx 5 years and as you said, they are supposed to be rather communal. Maybe yours have not read the fact sheet about themselves lol

Seemingly not! LoL.
I do wish they lived longer, I enjoy mine. I just can't figure out their behaviors.... They are singing now and blowing bubble nests, so I don't think they're unhappy. They have the cutest croak if you haven't heard them before!

No I have not heard them, I had not even heard of them till you posted here. I have no clue about their habits but I am more than willing to check out anything you post about them, bubble nests sound interesting! I do like frogs but I would not like them to touch me or land on me- I am a tad silly about jumping things lol.

Could just be an aggressive bunch. But also what’s your female to male ratio? Usually frogs are fine, but if he’s beating up on the female maybe another is needed?

When I was keeping gourami’s, I could keep them fine in a community, but only if I added all members at once, trying to add a new fish to the mix would result in them getting beat up since the existing had established territory.

They do jump, LoL. They blow little bubble cocoons when they are happy and sleep in them. They also shed their skins, and they stick to things. It's kinda gross, haha!

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I have 2 males and a female, but it's usually the female kicking their butts. The males only get upset when she lays eggs but that's only once a year for two days, so I just put some extra food in and they're good after that.

I love gourami's! They're so cute! As for adding a new frog, I got them all from the same tank at the pet store 5 years ago. I'm worried about adding a new one because they can be so aggressive, so I have the 3. I don't keep any fish in with them either, they have they're own tank. RIP neon tetras, guppies, and little goldfish. I pulled the others out of the tank and put them in another when I realized the frogs were hunting them all. :sad5: it's like watching jaws it was horrible. I don't know how they do it, they don't even have teeth! They just all grab one and drag it down. :CRMH:
