Hello all! I posted here over 3 years ago when I first got my Caique and had concerns. He is happy and healthy and definitely a caique!

He is over 3 1/2 years old now, will be 4 in June. Not sure if he is considered an adult yet? I have been waiting for the very hormonal behavior that caiques have when they reach maturity but he didn't really have that stage (yet) wondering what other people's experience is with their caique and if there is still a possibility that phase is still on the table. Or if it doesn't happen as bad to all of them. He has his moments like all parrots but is friendly and gentle, never bites hard enough to make me bleed or anything. Also makes a loud crying sound when he isn't getting undivided attention from someone.

Curious what other people's experiences are.

I do not have much experience with caiques, but @saroj12 , @Irishj9 or @Laurie may be able to answer your questions.

I have 13 of these little demons and the age of sexual maturity can vary quite a lot. In general it happens around 2 years old, so your bird has reached that stage.
A lot depends on how the bird is treated and handled, and you clearly have gotten that right
Bear in mind its the job of the male to prepare the nestbox for the female, and you may notice your furniture taking more punishment than usual in hormone season lol
