Adopting A Single Finch?

Hey all! Looking for some advice here. I recently came across a java finch for adoption which is rare and I'm stoked to pick him up, but he's the only finch the shelter has and I know they prefer to be in at least pairs if not groups. The shelter said he was surrendered after his partner passed away, and that he most likely won't bond with another finch. I was planning on housing him with maybe a zebra finch (easier to get than trying to find another Java) but now I'm unsure since the shelter said he won't bond with a new bird.

Is bird bonding something that is necessary to be housed together, or is it something akin to a special relationship that doesn't need to happen in order for the finch to be social with other birds? Thanks so much for any advice!

Hello and welcome!!!
I haven't had finches in decades .....I'm really no help...
I would think having other birds around ( in their own cage) would be beneficial

I'm sure being with you is better than a shelter .
