Also known as a Sharp-shinned hawk, a juvenile in this case. This is a very small hawk. My first thought when I saw it launch from the deck railing to the pine was "Kestrel." followed by "Nope, wrong color." The size, rounded head, and square tail I.D. it as a young Sharp-shinned, rather than a Cooper's.
