❤ we are picking up a male shortly and wonder how people get on having (non-breeding) female and male living together in a home .
These two are strictly our pets not looking to make babies breeding anf selling or anything like that if possible. Have been told without a breeding box they won't nest anyway.. however have seen pictures and videos of them making everyday things into their own nest box.. ie draws under furniture ect even without a male around, any advice is welcome we are already on good healthy diets and not touching no go zones like wings ect..(not an overly tochie bird anyway. Thanks everyone ☺

Wow! I salute you for trying to get your girl a conspecific flock mate!

I’ve no idea how this will play out in a non-breeding home. From what I’ve read, eclectus have among the most unusual breeding habits of parrots.

Will the male be an adult too? Looking forward to following this.

Thanks, yes I was lucky enough to be offered a bird the exact same age years wise, both are 3 years old, hand raised and tame. Both came to me at no cost (apart from travel).
Im excited to pick him up and once settled in I will update how they are getting along.

Males are going to be a lot more interested in you than her matewise a lot of the time in captivity. Basil and Mel love eachother but are not besties. They like being in the same room and they'd be sad if we seperated them, but they only really rarely during the day want to hang out during the day one on one with eachother. After breakfast, unless its a warm meal, Mel will usually wait for Basil to feed her as he does reluctantly, and then they go and do their own things, but always in the same room. We like to say they're friends with benefits :roflmao:

The friends with Benefits is exactly the minimum I would expect of 2 birds of opposite genders and prime breeding age.
Same as if you had 2 humans in the same setup.
