emergency light.
comes on if electricity goes off which could spell disaster if all freak out and fly in 7 different directions....
one problem was there was no way to turn them off unless power was restored.
The handy dandy mr saroj12 went to radioshack, got a toggle switch of the proper power rating and viola.....now switachable.
Thanks to Bobby (trout) for the suggestion:D

thanks Jane :hug8:
Lights went out at 1 AM last night and the emergency light came on and I covered up his cage but that was all I could do. He didn't pluck, but I took the day off....the birds and I were so tired. So this evening Jack ran out and fixed it up with the switch. He's a good guy :)

Very handy Saroj.. I think I may look into that more... I keep a no-batteries flash light near the cages in case of power outages, you just have to shake it to get it to go- handy so I dont have to fumble with dead batteries.

My thoughts exactly.. In our house we have a wood fireplace, but who knows how long that could take to get going properly in the winter.. oy, so generators are wonderful, but I dont have that option. So what I did was get a mini tote, create an emergency plan, and filled the tote up with basic essientials (food, bottled water, first aid, extra bowls, etc) Then I have my carriers sitting ready for use at the top of the bird closet (3 steps away) with covers. Everyone in the house knows what to do should we lose heat for longer than the house can sustain. birds to carriers, grab e-kit, head to warm car! Well thats all we can do now as we don't have a generator.
