We have received a bird into our shelter which appears to be a red color mutation Amazon. Through much research, we're pretty sure it's a red-mutation Yellow-Nape. A gorgeous and unique bird to be sure. His background is "relatively" known, but we can't get in contact with his original owner. I'm hoping to get some information about his background via his band, assuming the breeder is still around. I didn't see the ID on here or on any Google searches, so I'm hoping you guys maybe have a rabbit you can pull out of your hat ... the band starts with "YCH"

I'd be interested in any ideas you might have!

Bob
First and foremost.... get the bird to an avian vet for a CBC. There's red mutation, then there's sick bird that's red. So please, go see a vet to try and rule out any medical issues. Could be anything from liver or kidney failure to possible PBFD.

I recently purchased a Goffins cockatoo and upon doing some research I noticed he is wearing an open band. I didn’t buy him from original owner and told he was 2. Can anyone help me with figuring out what his band means?

Are you located in the US? Open bands generally mean an imported bird but in 1992 it became illegal to import most of the wild caught parrots. Open band can also mean that the breeder placed that band when the bird was older and so could not fit a closed domestic band around the leg. If your bird is an import he/she is older than 2 years. Can you read the information on the band?

Hi yes I’m in the USA. I can read the band. It has three letters followed by three numbers

If that's an "M" then it represents an import facility in Michigan. It might even be an "N" and that would refer to New York.
Can you get any additional information about the bird from the person you purchased him/her from?
That does look like an import band but I might be wrong.

@sunnysmom Elvis still has his import band, doesn't he? Doesn't the one in the posted photo look like an import band?

Are there any numbers? Are any of the letters sideways? Is the band opened or closed?

She’s reached out to veterinarians and such, I’m actually an administrator of 911 Parrot Alert, it says HAI FL 03 and a few more numbers I think? I can’t remember the rest. Thank you all for any help!!

Do you know the species of bird? Sometimes that can help to find/rule out various breeders.

You could try looking up Quaker breeders in FL. Maybe you can find something. Sometimes the breeder using their initials and sometimes the initials of the Aviary but sometimes the letters could represent anything.
