As I was putting everyone to bed earlier, I started by filling everyones foodbowls with dried food ready for the morning (so if they wake before me they can eat).
As I pulled Aldora/Jaimes bowl out her nail got caught under the rim of the bowl (!!!). Worst bird for this to happen to. I left the bowl in it´s place but as I reached in to help free her she tried to bite. I called my partner over trying to be calm but freaking out on the inside as she was flapping and moving around so much. Luckily she managed to free herself just as he came over (she doesnt bite him usually which is why I called for him). The whole ordeal lasted about 30-40 seconds which is not a long time.. but for a small bird to have a nail trapped and be flapping around, it is a very long time.

She seems to be fine, not favouring the other foot or the toes sitting weird or anything. I´ll check again in the morning.

Just goes to show, freak accidents can happen.

The bowl is a SS one that came with Lapis/Nubes cage. I will go get a picture of one of the spare bowls.

Even the round SS bowls I have for the other cages have the same small lip around the rim. Had bowls like that for years with no issues. It´s just a freak thing that happened. I have never seen a SS bowl without that small rim around the top.

I´ve had a good look at her today and she´s ok :)

So glad she is okay! Sounds like you handled it very calmly which I am sure helped Aldora be less panicked. Big sigh of relief with you here. :hug8:

Right?!
Just thought it was worth sharing because I´ve never read anything about anyones birds getting their nail stuck like that. It would never happen to a larger bird, but lots of us have little birds and use SS dishes.

So true, me included. Can you or the BF flatten the rims with a small hammer so there's no gap at all? It's that or replace them all. I'm doing all mine today.

*edit*

Gonna take one to a welder friend, see if she can put a bead over the edge of one, cover the gap.

I'm glad it was resolved smoothly! I've had one of my bird's toes/nails get stuck in a toy; it really is a scary moment.
