5 years ago today.....

It's hard to believe that it's been 5 years since our sweet Sunny went to the Rainbow Bridge. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. He filled my life with joy. He came unexpectedly into our lives when he was 15. We had him until he was 20. I feel fortunate that I got to have those years with him, but of course, you always want more time. Because of him, I now help with a parrot rescue and have my current flock. I like to think that I do those things to honor him. People are often hesitant to take in an older bird, thinking they won't bond with me, they can't learn new things, etc. Sunny is proof that all those thoughts are incorrect. He adored me and learned to love to explore and play. He was my heart bird.

We rescued Mickey in 2012 and he was the sweetest DYH ever! A truly grateful bird (unlike our other two spoiled brats) who only wanted to be loved. The most melodious bird who would sing and coo at night, and loved Samantha’s cooking.

Sadly, we only had two years with him, and it went all too fast. He taught us so much in that time, and we still talk about him all the time.

We are opening up a bird rescue in FL in his honor later this year. A big undertaking, but we need to do it.

When I lost Blueberry...the sense of loss was too much! (04/01/2021). You put into words exactly how I felt and feel today....birds steal our heart too much!!!! Tears in my eyes right now. When I heal, I would like to rescue the bird that the Universe thinks would be a great match for me!

I can't believe that it has been 5 years already. I know that Sunny is looking down on your little family and laughing and Elvis' antics.
