Hello everyone ~ this is my first post but this forum has been a big help for me for months back when i got my first bird, a cockatiel! But now the time has come for me to actually make a post TT

I got a 4 month old caique boy 4 days ago and i was told he eats pellets, fruits, veggies but was in addition being fed baby food (because there were younger babys on formula so he wanted it too?).
So in advance i prepared pellets and treats for him and the first 2 days everything went well, he ate some pellets and nuts from my hand right next to his older Cocktatiel brother. It was really surprising because my tiel was very scared at first of everything and didnt move but the caique already came out his cage and flies to me from day one! Very active playful etc.

However from day 3 he began to scream and scream and would only stop when i fed him some food or water by hand and then scream again. Mostly when he is out with me or if i walk by his cage. When he thinks he is alone he doesn’t scream. i searched a lot and seems like his scream and mannerism (very fluffy, kind of flat and head slightly bobbing?) is a begging for food screaming and he is regressing… i tried to give him warm mushed pellets today because i read it’s comforting but he only ate a bit and kept screaming:( it hurts my heart (and my ears lol)
I dont really want to give him formula again if i can avoid it because thought he was weaned since he ate all other food well… if i give formula again isnt it like starting all over again? Im still slightly new to this so please correct me if i am wrong haha! Most posts i read were saying you need to give formula until they refuse it.

I would really appreciate some advice on what to do. Chuseok holidays are coming up so from today the package service stops :( even if i wanted to give him formula right now i couldn’t :( will he be okay?

He's kind of old to be regressing to need formula, but that's what it sounds like! My very limited experience is you give it to them and they go "oh yeah, ok so they;'re going to feed me here too." and they go merrily on their way after only a few hand feedings.
I'm wondering if you could give warm mushy oatmeal or baby food instead? And hold him against you or baby him a lot.

Give him formula. As much as he wants. Period.
His own curiosity will move him on to other food WHEN HE IS READY.

What IS this manic obsession with forcing babies to grow up too fast?

yes please give him formula. You can buy EXACT baby formula on amazon. Just mix with water. Doesnt need to be hot.

This is a typical WBC baby before his first moult. The beak colour can vary a lot in caiques, though only the BHC goes completely black. The Black(ish) head feathers are a gift from a common parent species - the Green thighed caique. The WBC will grow all orange head feathers eventually, losing the black

I had the same experience with my BH. They take really long to ween but they eventually do!! Just feed him and introduce new foods, one of the best quality of caiques is that they eat literally everything you offer him and once he gets to taste new flavours, he'll gradually forget about the baby food. And he'll come eating everything you have in your hand or in your kitchen like a flying t-rex.
Don't give up and keep feeding him. I found out they are very reluctant, but they just want to make 100% sure you'll take care of them and need more "cuddles" and reassurement than other birds.
