Found out Katie's birthday...

She was hatched in Aug. of 2004...so she's almost eight! Now I just need to get a picture to upload so I can get my siggy updated.

Katie's been asking for lots of head scritches today. She's not good at step ups (yet), so I have to be really careful, but she's loving head scritches and some body strokes (just a couple of those...I don't want hormones kicking in!). She's getting really playful...I love a parrot who loves toys.


Is Katie the oldest Cape here on the Avenue? I think most here are very young, but I'm not sure.

Léa also had issues with the step up command at first - took a while for her to willingly cooperate

Katie might very well be the oldest - otherwise it might be Fanny, but I think Fanny might be slightly younger..

Oh, I forgot about Fanny! I remember seeing some adorable videos of her.

Yeah, the step ups are challenging. I need to get her stepping up on something, even if it's not me at the moment. I tried adowel...didn't go over well. I may try a basket with a handle next. Although earlier today, she was on her cage door and I had to go out of the room, and she clearly wanted to go with me. Crouching, wings out a bit, peeping pathetically. So I went back and asked for a step up and she didn't offer to bite. She just turned a circle on the door. We did that routine a couple more times, then I just went on (I had something I had to do). But I could see the wheels turning in her head.

My Shadow is just a year old and she doesn't like the dowel for step ups unless I tie a treat or a little toy to the end of it. I've used a tiny foot toy or a piece of birdie bread. Then it seems like the dowel says Fun Time to her and she doesn't mind! Another thing I have used very successfully is a small towel. I got her used to it draped over her and she gets rolled up in it too. I put the towel over my hand sideways and she likes the step ups because I think she knows that there is towel play time coming right afterwards! Maybe this will help. Oh, she is a Red Bellied Female too.
