Default Plucking ?

When I got my other U2 he stopped plucking so...

The new U2 was getting in down feathers and was almost all covered with them. Than Friday I was having a procedure done and was out of it the rest of the day and the next I was still haveing issues and he wasn't out of the cage as much as he had been. So, all the down was missing again. At this time I didn't see any down feathers on the floor or the bottom of the cages.

Today I saw alot of the little down feathers with the shafts on them. I also found some of the "barbered" feathers on the ground with shafts on them. Is this plucking or molting?????????

Good question. I've had my Triton for 4 weeks and he has done the same thing over the past week and a half. All of his down feathers on his chest and under his arms are gone now. Someone said it may be hormonal. That they do that to help feather the nest (?). I'm seeing a few other feathers as well in the mix. I'm not seeing new feathers coming in right now so my thought is it's not molting. Would also love to know if this is a normal thing or plucking.

Sounds like plucking to me. Some pictures would be great to help see what's going on.

Can I suggest you raise the protein you feed your cockies? I had a similar problem then read about a Dutch breeder of cockatoos who at breeding time and moulting gave his birds two chicken wings a day..now maybe thats too much, but when I increased my cockies protein she left her feathers alone, she had been eating the downy feathers. You might also provide some old feathers tied together and tied onto the cage side for the birds to groom..it gives the new feathers a chance to grow.

OK, just finished reading. I have already taken the bird to a AA vet and she already said it wasn't medical BEFORE she had any test result other than a neg gran stain. She already has him on med too. Anybody know about Hydroxyzine syrup or Revia.

I made a list of test not done. I will be calling the vet about testing for heavy metal tomorrow. The cage Roxy/Rocy had been in was well chewed to the point of broken/bent bars.
