I think it was good that you brought the birds to the vet. It's always better to be safe rather than sorry. Don't think your bird got sick from taking him to the vet. Maybe something else was going on beforehand.
Birds can get stressed from going to the vet and it can take them a while to get over that. You've not had them very long and being in a new environment can also be very stressful for them. I hope that they will both be OK.
