Got up this morning to a couple of inches of snow on the ground. The hummingbird feeder was covered, so I cleaned it off.

No sooner had I done so, and backed off, when I spotted a dark streak out of the corner of my eye. Didn't get a good shot, but here's one of our wintering-over Anna's hitting the feeder as soon as I brushed it off.

I didn't know that some of them don't migrate. Yours must have been waiting for the feeder to be cleaned off.

We have at least two pair that stay here year-round. I'm not sure what they eat during the winter.

Me either! I'm so glad you keep it filled and dusted it off. :hug8: I'm surprised the nectar doesn't freeze.

It will, if it gets too cold out. So, you bring the feeder in at night and rehang it in the morning.

I have hummers here in spring and fall when it can snow and it makes me crazy with worry!
Now I'll be worrying about your little ones.
I keep 2 small bowl-type feeders filled and I rotate them in and out of the house. When they are inside the house I have a small heating mat that I use to germinate seeds and I set the feeder on a plate on the mat to warm up more quickly but not get too hot.
What a responsibility we have for these tiny angels!
