Why you should not get a cage that opens on top for a Goffin

Have I mentioned how smart and mechanical Elvis is? He can unlock the top of his cage in seconds. And it's a two part lock where you have to put the bar out straight and then twist it. And then he opens up both sides. And usually proceeds to bang them open and shut because, well it's apparently fun to be loud. LOL. (This was actually the cage we got for Sunny that he refused to use. It's only temporary for Elvis as I plan to get him a bigger one- without an open top.)

I have a goffin so I coulda told ya that!
At least you discovered that when you were home and not gone to work all day.
Sunny first learned how to open his food dish door when we were at work and demolished a skylight.

Occupational hazard of having a G2 around!

I love the look Elvis is giving while the picture is taken...it's like, "Yeah, this is my work here...pretty cool, huh?"

The cage looks exactly like Buddy's cage... thank goodness he's not mechanically inclined, like Elvis is...;)

Oh my! Well, Elvis basically destroyed my 100 year old pocket door. But that's a story for another day....... when I'm less upset about it. :depressed: (And I blame myself, not him.) He can also unscrew those hook things that come with most toys in seconds. They are SO smart. And he studies me doing things........:scared5:

I know- right? I love that look too.

It's a great cage in a lot of ways- has a playtop thing that goes on top, but it's just clearly not a good cage for him. LOL.

Methinks you need to talk to John @JLcribber - I believe he has some "creative" and "mechanically inclined" toos though they aren't the same kind as yours. If it's any consolation, one of my Quaker boys has mini padlocks on (the outside) cage doors and the other has those snap clips because he has figured out how to open the clips that screw shut.

I remember you telling me about that...Elvis, Elvis, Elvis....:bignono:

That can be unnerving sometimes...like when Milton WATCHES while we dial the combination to the lock on his door. Like I told you, he'll turn the lock around and spin the dial around with his beak. :shocked3:
And you can't dial the combination and then leave it locked until you want to open it. I used to do that and leave the lock locked...it saves valuable seconds if an emergency strikes. Anyway, Milton began to pull the lock OPEN...so we can't use that shortcut anymore...

Quakers do have the same mechanical inclinations as G2s...those little stinkers...;)

I totally forgot about Milton, I'm sorry Bob!
Milton has a "thing" about locks...that's for sure!

I still like when he broke a combination lock that was "GUARANTEED FOR LIFE!"

Obviously that didn't include Cockatoos...;)

It doesn't matter what kind of cage you get. They will eventually figure out how to open it. Break it. Or both.

You will need to get out the tools and harden the bunker.

@Laylatoo, watch those pinkies! Fozzwald can get out of cages that have the feeder doors with the tabs on screws that flip back and forth and Leo and Letti have no problems opening the old California Cage doors! I keep pad locks on their doors!:). Apparently, Addison is too lazy to bother with her feeder doors!:)

Harry likes to open the landing pad door on his cage, especially when I'm bent over pulling out cage papers.

Guess it's time for an Elvis aviary indoors if you can do. The look on his face is so dang telling. Is he saying "ok what's next?"

I am so glad Russell shows no signs of mechanical inclination.
