We never noticed any activity in a nest box hanging outdoors but when my OH went to take it down because of the hurricane he thought he saw an eye peeking up. He put it back and secured it with wire so now it looks different. We're putting a nestcam on it to see if parents come back otherwise we should peek in it night in case there is a baby in it and needs feeding. What will we feed it if there is a baby? I hope we get some alerts during the day. He

They will come back. They never surrender their babies if they are still alive.

That depends on what bird it is. Pigeons, you can give Harrissons. Meat eating bird you can give dry dog and cat food. (the same way as you feed Harrison with a syringe)

And thanks for caring for those babies! ♥

it's a tiny hole for tiny parents to fit in. We're not 100% sure there is anything in the nestbox. It's so late in the year to be nesting though!

i called the store we bought the nestbox from, the owners are wildlife experts. He too said the parents are very resilient and if there is a baby inthere they will come back. It's highly unlikely there's a
baby bird due to it being past the nesting season. he said it could be a lizard looking up at us. He said go ahead and check it out right now if you want.

Perhaps go out and see if their is anything in that box if you can?
That will not scare the parents away if their are babies inside. They will always feed their babies even if you tough them. It is a myth that our smell scare them away.
And some birds nesting near people to feel safe so not every bird are afraid of us. :)

You're right Annette, it's a wren box and wrens are not bothered by people according to the wild bird store. Now I just hope there are no injured birds after the storm.

It was a Little pinhole in the back that looked like an eye! No we don't have to evacuate and it's still looking okay for us. Not going to work on Monday during the storm! They'll probably close the base.

We fed Beeper the house finch baby parrot food from a dropper and she did great on it. She self weaned to finch seeds and junk food when she was ready but for the rest of her life she would do the baby bird scream and wing wiggle if she saw something she really liked.
