As many of you are probably tired of reading,
Australia requires strict permits/licenses to keep native fauna.
I have the highest permit for my cockatoos and reptiles, however there is one step further I can go...

And finally after years of waiting, I am!

Next Sunday Ill be spending the day doing my Venomous Snakes Husbandry course so I can finally bring home my favourite snake; the Red Bellied Black Snake!
Ive done my extensive paperwork and emergency plan, my senior first aid, and so now am just anxiously awaiting the course!

Redbellies give birth to live babies, it's super cool! Ive got my name down for three bubs to be born in a month or two!

They will be kept in locked enclosures with gaps no larger than 2mm (this is a condition of keeping them) in their own locked room (again, a condition) until they can be moved outside as adults.

I cannot freaking wait!

These are not my photos, but show the species beautifully.

I shshould also add that while redbellies are listed as "highly venomous", they're a docile species who often "dry bite" (bite but don't inject venom as a conscious choice), and even if envonomated, are not considered deadly and often antivenom is not even used. You'll just feel like youve got a mighty painful flu!

Also freehandling will not be used...snake hooks, tailing, and safe boxes will be used!

Well, for one thing redbellies actually specialize in frogs and fish, sorry!

Secondly, because I am allowed other hobbies and kept snakes years before birds, and theyre no where near each other!

Id find a cat that kills for fun (both birds and snakes!) A lot more worrying than an animal that doesnt/eats monthly.

Thank God for that...I thought you might have been and Essendon supporter. :lol:Well at least you haven't graduated to the Fierce Snake (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) yet. I quite often see Red-Bellied Black Snakes and Copperheads along the creek bank near home. :)
