What does abnormal breathing look like with an Amazon?

I just got my new amazon, and I'm curious as to what I should look out for when it comes to breathing. Thank you

Can you hear it? Is the beak open?

Bird can be stressed or overheated.

How old is he. If he has recently been weaned, that is very likely begging activity. many baby birds who are claimed tohave been weaned, wii revert when they go to a new home.

Then it may well be just him showing an interest in you. If he is having breathing problems he will have his mouth open and you will be able to tell by looking at his chest.

Another sign of difficult breathing is his tail will bob up and down as he tries to take each breathe

I guess he was just hungry. After getting a belly full he stopped.
How long have you had him?

Amazons are awesome birds. We have 2 older ones. We didn't know anything, I repeat, ANYTHING about birds when we brought them home. So if you have any questions, ask away. That's what the forum is for.

I knew I'd be away from the forums for a while earlier so I tagged two members for attention to the thread for you.

I remember the first few days/week, before I got to the vet with them, I thought Secret had the flu. The birds beak would chatter like our teeth chatter.....I'd turn up the heat and run to her cage.....and she'd stop. I felt silly once I realized it meant the bird was content. It's one of my favorite sounds now.
