Tika's T stick is covered with 100grit sandpaper (just like the one I was going to send you but you didn't want) and that is how he travels so he gets a touch up every time he moves. I've also conditioned him to play with his feet so I grab a nail and sand it down while he's sitting there.

Amanda will let me clip her nails with a little reluctance. The littles get toweled

I used a 2 1/2 inch thick maple dowel that you can buy at any home improvement place. It needs to be big to be effective so their feet can't wrap around it and they must grip it with their talons.John,
How did you make that transfer stick?
Is the sandpaper glued down?
If I can't get the fellow to make them out of dowels, that might be a possibility.
Also if someone doesn't want sandpaper they can use vet wrap on it.
Your recommendation of these perches has saved my arm. A few weeks ago I noticed Buzzard chewing at his nails and then one evening they actually started cutting me, drawing blood. He had just gotten his nails trimmed a week or so before, so I ordered this perch because you and a few others recommended them in a couple of threads. I had no idea until I searched it on here that some birds actually sharpen their nails? (The horror!) Now, thanks to this miracle perch, and 2 weeks of Neosporin, my arm is almost healed. (I couldn't not hold him, he didn't understand and his toenails kept getting stuck in the ACE bandage when I tried to wrap my arm, so I just had to grin and bear it. Ouch!)Is it the kind with the smooth top and bottom?

A brick?@DQTimnehs Thank you for that. Buzzy's perch is the kind with a wide, smooth strip along the top and bottom, but I will be mindful to keep an eye on his toes.
Also, I like the idea of filing toenails through the bars. How did the two of you come to this arrangement? I would like to enter into these negotiations with Buzz! And ever since I saw a couple threads where JLCribber suggested putting a brick in the cage, Buzzard's beak has never looked better.

Or a concrete blockA brick?
I missed that thread @JLcribber
In order for them to groom their beak they need something that's hard enough and abrasive enough to do the job. I've also just used a nice big rock.Hmmmmm.
I meant concrete block. I said "brick" because I went with a half-size paver -the regular 1'x1' pavers weighed about 10 lbs! So it kinda looks like a brick. I looked for that decorative one but I could only find it on Lowes & it was discontinued. And I got a plain concrete one because I was afraid that any pretty colored ones might have something that wasn't safe in them, so I stuck with what I knew was already birdie approved.Or a concrete block
