He won't step up for you? Have you tried putting some fresh foods in a cup inside his cage to see if he'll go in to investigate those? Sooner or later he's going to get thirsty and hungry and go in to eat.

Nope. He acts like it but he runs away. I’ve put his favorite treats in his bowl and made sure he saw me do it. I also added some peppers, carrots, strawberries, mango, pineapple, broccoli, and cauliflower. He moved to the other side of the cage on the top

How about attaching a bowl containing a few treats to the inside of the cage door. Maybe he will at least go down to the door if it is opened and then you can close the door. What happens when you go near him?

Every one of my fids went through that when they first came home. New house, new cage, new people, too spooky! They all eventually went in once their hunger got the best of them, and they were more relaxed about going in when I was on the other side of the room and/or sitting down. Toby's got to feel sure of himself and his surroundings first.

I managed to get him in. I went through everything I had put in his bowl a few more times and whispered sweet stuff to him, begging him to go back into his cage, lol. It worked. He went in, thankfully.

Nothing really happens when we go near him. As long as we don’t try and ask him to step up or put our hands near him, he will literally just sit there staring at us until we go away

I know that. What I didn’t expect was for him to not go in his cage at all. I would’ve thought he would’ve felt safer in the cage, but I guess not. We will try again in a few more days and see what happens

Are you staying in the room when you want him to go in? Sometimes it works if you put something they want in the cage and walk out.

I wasn’t. I put stuff in his bowl and walked into the kitchen to do the dishes
