Hi, I really want to make some foraging toys and I have some walnut and coconut shell pieces. I have seen them on store bought toys and was wondering if I can string onto mine. Is that safe?

I would think they'd be safe. Many of us give our big birds nuts in the shell to crack and they love 'em. If your bird likes them I don't see why not.

If you are using string then no. Find something safe to use like the paper rope.

I often put the walnut and macadamia shells back into the cage for Burt after I clean his cage......he will fiddle with the shells for ages before breaking them into tiny bits :)

I think they would make a great toy for smaller birds.

I think they're perfectly safe, but I would be careful to remove or sand any sharp or cracked edges and, as @Lady Jane pointed out, be sure to use a bird-safe material to string them with. I bet they'll enjoy them! :)
