I beg you also to get that second opinion. At Tx A&M, please.

The vet drew blood from Wasabi and I collected a fecal sample over a period of 2 weeks. The vet put the material in a little cooler type thing and sent it. I think there were little bags in there to keep the samples cool. It has to be packaged correctly or the samples could be compromised.

You must get both blood and feces tested, because as I said, it appears as though the virus is shed intermittently.

Please, please get in touch with Tx A&M.

I would urge you to get a second test, my reason would be you don't want to treat your baby with something that might not work.

I've sought second opinions and if you have a good vet they don't get upset. Both my CAV's know each other and my regular CAV is happy to refer on the more specialised one if something like this crops up.

It might well be that your vet is right but I wouldn't rest until you have that second and third positive test due to problem with false negatives.

Good luck and I hope it turns out to be something less complex. :)

@greys4u I know you are getting all kinds of info and things are confusing. Many of us speak from experience. IMHO I think you should get a second opinion. I also highly suggest you get metal/zinc toxicity testing done. Do not wait! If it is positive your baby will need immediate treatment to survive.

From the many different posts here, I guess I'd have this somewhat cruel question. If you were diagnosed with terminal cancer all of a sudden, would you consult with another (or several) doctors? If your answer is "yes", then do the same for Valentine. You have nothing to lose by doing so and very much to gain. In the end, it is your decision but I would not mourn for your fid until I had several identical confirmations from different veterinarians. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Valentine - being told that anyone in one's family is deathly ill is difficult, if not painful, to deal with.

And yes, I do realize it would get expensive to do so but I'd look at the possibility that things may not be as deadly as they seem.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your husband and that you and Valentine are going through this.

The forum is a sounding board of sorts. A way to bounce ideas, thoughts, and sharing of information we wouldn't normally have access to. I just hope and pray that one of those thoughts or ideas can help Valentine.

So sorry. Sending positive thoughts your way. If you can get a second opinion then do so.
