It can hold both him and Nikki. Tonight, however, she was not ready for her closeup.

Would the java tree be safe for the birds once the cat has been on it like that because of toxoplasmosis from the cat's feet?

Unless the cats are indoor/outdoor they should be fine.
Toxoplasmosis is much more common with outdoor cats, along with quite a few other parasites.

Seeing that I don't have cats but know birds can die from that stuff if scratched, that is why I asked the question.

What a stunning cat and a perfect climbing tree :)

Indoor cats are unlikely to get Toxoplasmosis unless they have a raw meat diet. I've had it but not from my cats, from undercooked meat.

I'm sure good old F10 would help too. Love that stuff.

I used to worry about that sort of thing when I first got my cat. Since then, I'm not quite so germ paranoid. Truthfully, it does bother me slightly, but in practice I've had my cat for about 7 years and have not had a sick bird yet. I do wash hands after giving the cat a good scratch and I try to keep the birds off the back of my recliner where the cat sleeps. But otherwise, I have not had problems.
