Doing a macaw swap today in an attempt to clear some personality conflicts. ... and a few other reasons. ;)

Should be an interesting swap...
Length of vacation time pending....

7 hour countdown to arrival
8 hour countdown to second arrival.
Going to do my 6pm show with one extra macaw on stage. o_O

.... and vacation temporarily on hold....

Sakie went on the injury list today. :( Seems she hurt her ankle somehow.

Maui is coming in to do the 6pm show.

Yah, she is not terrible but has enough pain to keep her on worker's compensation. Dosed her with some metacam and I'm going to give her another day or two before worrying. No heat or swelling, keeping a close eye on her. :)

I swap them often when I think a change of scenery is needed. Most of them seem to really enjoy a change... in fact, Maui didn't want to come home tonight but I promised him he could come back tomorrow.

He bit me a good one during the show, complete over excitement and it deflected my way.

This swap I'm wanting to do.... has never been done before. ;) Could be good or bad. Waiting for Sakie to heal before doing it now.

I think change is good for birds. I used to take Billy jean ( cockatoo) over to my sister's when she was alive to hang out with her cockatoo.
My sister And I didn't exactly swap, but had what we called bird sleep overs for a couple days. It worked out quite well and gave everybody a little mini vacation. It's a great behavioral tool to have things like that. My opinion it brings everyone including birds closer.

@Macawnutz - have you considered that Saki might have developed arthritis - she is 62(?) and most older parrots do develop it.

Yes, I'm sure she has it but this was sudden and without warning. The metacam did very little so I increased the dose and put her to bed for the night. Tomorrow is another day and I hope to see improvement.

At the vet with Sakie. They gave her a shot to sedate her and instead she was running around like super women. Ugh

Waited 45 minutes for it to slow her and opted to gas her for xrays. Tough old girl.

Oh she’s a gorgeous old girl.

I hope everything goes well and is an easy and fast fix for her.

It's some kind of mass. :(

Maybe egg, maybe kidneys, possible soft tissue injury.... they are sending films out to a specialist.
