Hey guys.. so i have another problem with my 6 month old macaw. Whenever i put him in the cage he likes to climb on the walls and he jaggs his tail against it and makes it look suuuper ugly. I've seen other macaws on youtube and online and their tail looks, smooth and straight despite them being in the cage and also climbing on the walls. Their tails seem perfectly fine but for some reason mine look ugly and it really does bother me because it looks like he's come from a neglected home or something lol. I'll post pictures. 39760752_1356398497828407_67832033413431296_n.jpg 39741042_1517588015009257_7036536760322490368_n.jpg

Baby macaws want to play... they do not care what they look like. Tails are long and get in the way, they don't keep them nice until they are a few years old.

Maui my scarlet, we always said he looked like he was ran over with a lawnmower... twice.

Your sweetie has a lifetime to be beautiful. Let him be a kid now. :D Showers can help but only so much. :)

hahaha oh i see. I guess im expecting things from him because i have baby cockatiels as well and they always preen their tails/feathers all the time. I've never seen my macaw clean his tail once. I still have a lot to learn about macaws! And LOL! ahhaha alright ill post some. 39580662_730743063943736_4638992750480457728_n.jpg 39741063_668393560183480_3153758665425551360_n.jpg

Macaws are slow to grow up. You will have a toddler for at least 2-3 years. They are a handful so goodness please... ask any questions you come up with. The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask.

What a adorable baby. Cute cute cute. Kiss him for me!

Oh I wish Burt's tail looked that tidy! :hehe:
Burt is a few days shy of being 9 months old and we joke that he has been dumpster diving because he looks so scruffy. He has just started to pay a little more attention to preening some of his shorter tail feathers but only really the ones that have just recently come in, the older more messed up tail feathers he does not bother with.
Your baby is soooo cute.

Love the macaws...babies and older.
My adult macaw tail looks that way.
He is just rough on it.

I have four macaws. At one time or another at least one of their tails is ratty looking.

@Macawnutz has nine, count'em, nine Macaws plus two Amazons and two Cockatoos. Now you know where the "Nutz" part of her screen name comes from.

Really research closely who you will use as a free flight instructor - there are different qualities of instructors. Losing your macaw during free flight is a real possibility, if the training is not done correctly and thoroughly.

They are in their own cages and they keep each other company.
They each have their own personality.
Some days I do sit in another room and listen to them chatting with each other.

Stop It!
Good?
Hello
Hi
Gotta go to work
A lot of it I don't understand but every once in a while I hear the "D" word. Like months apart.
