Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory, and can be given safely to your bird. Tulsi (holy basil) is another anti-inflammitory, and parrots love to eat the flowering stalks.
Make sure you get the organic, as many commercial brands contain sulfur dioxide :)

If you take other medications, especially perscribed meds, check to make sure there are no drug interactions. Herbal remedies, although natural and minimally processed, are still drugs and can interact with other substances you are taking.

I've been using fresh ginger in my smoothies every day & bought some tumeric also. can I add the actual pieces of the raw root in their food? What I would do is make a smoothie for me with obviously only safe stuff for them & then add part of the smoothie to their mash or something- I believe Sammy has arthritis too & I also have it in my knee & back.
