What do you guys recommend? What do you guys use?

When I say long tail, I'm thinking more like a tail the length of a severe macaw.

Thanks.:)

The tail is quite flexible. It will not harm a parrots' tail to bend slightly within a carrier (for short periods of time)...a large GW macaw can easily fit into a 30" long travel carrier.
Severe macaw? Are you adding to your flock?

Good question. I actually don't know. I get asked that by macaw owners a lot. Would like to hear what others have to suggest.

I use the large, plastic pet carriers that you find at the large, big box pet stores. fortunately, they came with my birds but are easily repalceable because they get worked on every time we go the the vets! I have a perch that has been screwed into the bottom part of the carrier for the Christal and Serita clings to the grate door or roams on the bottom of the carrier. they unfortunately do not fold and live in the garage most of the time. they are light tho and easily handleable for 1 person.

Ooops, forgot to directly reply...for a parrot the size of a Severe, a carrier that's 20" long is ample.

Lots of people adapt heavy duty plastic pet kennels (made for dogs usually), adding a perch. The powder coated wire kennels work fine as well and are more 'user-friendly', in that food cups can be attached easily.

There was a site that made the travel cages for the larger birds, but I can't find it. They were tall for the longer tails and bigger birds. They looked well made too.

I use the airline approved Vari-Kennel for all of my flock. Cat sized kennel for African Grey, Mini-Macaw and smaller. Size 300P for Cockatoos and Large Macaws.
