What about dying your own wood? I found the following link as an example, they're talking about dying wool, but I bet you would get results doing the same with some of the softer woods:

I actually have bird-safe dye... (Vita Critter is great by the way!!) and used it to dye a few wood parts on a play gym I made for Charles. But it is very messy and I found that I always dyed my fingers/hands more effectively than anything else :o:

I make toys out of both natural and colored woods and they seem to chew them up no matter what color. Except for the fact that Tango will not go near anything red, toys or food :p
