I am profoundly sorry for your loss.

It is the ultimate act of love to release a companion animal from their suffering. :sadhug2:

Run free in the green fields of the Bridge, Barney...

Just because it was the right thing to do to help end his suffering doesn't make it any easier. I'm so sorry for your loss. That was incredibly brace and strong of you to help your best friend and to be there for him until the end.

I'm in tears just looking at your dog's sweet face. Truly sorry for your loss. I've done this with several good dogs (and aren't they all good dogs?) myself...a calm, good memory of their passing....heart still broken. Euthanasia - from the Greek - meaning..."a good death". What better gift to be able to give a beloved family member?

He was very handsome - a mix of Anatolian (Turkish) Shepherd and Labrador Retriever. Very gentle despite his size. My dad always said he "took up a lot of real estate." His physical presence is missing in my small bungalow because he really did take up a lot of room. I have already gone to let him out twice and feed him once since he's been gone. Routines are hard to change I guess.

. I have alreay gone to let him out twice and feed him once since he's been gone.
Now I can't stop crying. I'll ask my guys to help Barney on the other side of the bridge til we get there.

This is a piece from a poem I wrote back in 1994 when my old Schnauzer mix, Scottie, passed. Sadly, my memory has lost some of this one and all written copies are gone...

SCOTTIE

Did it hurt you to leave me,
Does it hurt you now?
Or did you take my love,
With you somehow?

What is your heaven?
Your eternal life?
Is it happy? and loving?
Is it free from all strife?

I pray, in your heaven,
Painful memories are gone.*
That you face each new day,
In the light of God's dawn.

Perhaps, in your heaven,
I'm always there.
So you'll spend eternity,
In my loving care.

I love you so much,
I miss your dear face.
You are my Best Boy,
No other dog could replace.

The future may bring,
Many dogs I'll call mine.
But you're the one,
Who will live,
In my heart,
For all time.

(for Scottie, thanks for letting me be your Mom for the last seven years)

Oh please don't...I have been going between laughing and crying all day. I spent the day with family and everyone had a touching and often funny story to tell about him. From my parents to my sister and her children - who she says Barney helped raise. Even neighbours have had tears and stories (I live in a small community) - everybody knew Barney. It was sad yet wonderful for me to hear how much he was loved.

I'm sure Pebbles and Barney are having fun now... without the pain. Sorry for your loss of best friend! Pebbles always brings tears to my eyes when I think of how much I loved her and picture her in my mind! God Bless both of them!

I hope as time passes it gets easier to reflect back on all those happy and fun memories.
He sounds like a real character that left a little bit of himself in everyone's heart, he is still a part of all your lives and always will be. The experiences and adventures they give us shape who we are.
