Hi there,
I was wondering if any of you might have an idea on if my new little guy is really a guy
I will say he's smart as a whip..I got him yesterday from petco..I kno, I kno, but he was SO cute lol..I had budgies years ago, and it seemed like it took forever before they would step up on a perch...
This little guy, I'm thinking either Truman or logan, if he is a male...
Stepped up on a perch that I held today, the second day..
He's awfully quiet tho, I have seen him eat off and on, but I haven't seem him drink water..which concerns me a little..
Thanks for any help on his/her sex.. 20170602_205702-2.jpg

Really depends on how old he/she is. The cere doesn't show its true color until after about 4 months. If its over 4 months, it quite possibly a girl. Best way to find out for sure is DNA sexing.
Oh and such a beautiful budgie!:D

Thank you!
He was the smallest there, but the most alert, active..there were others with more exotic colors, but I fell in love with this lil guy or girl..
I think he's probably 2 months or so..very small

You may have to wait a few more months then. Or you could take the DNA sexing route which I recommend if you want to find out sooner. If not, That's alright!! Just post some more pictures in a few more months and we could help you find out its gender!!
Oh and
:welave::meet:

You could always find some unisex names. My female conure, Kai, has a unisex name. Its more commonly used for boys but is also a girls' name!!

Looks like a young male right now!

I've had one bird for ~3 years and I've never seen her take a drink of water...

There's no need for DNA sexing in budgies, it's actually quite easy to see if it's male or female at a young age, you just need to know what to look for. :)
You have a beautiful young Male!

I think you probably have a boy, but you're right, it's hard to be sure.
At that age, baby boys generally have pink or purple ceres, and girls have whitish-blue/purplish blue ceres. The most distinct difference is the boys will have a brighter looking cere, and the females will have a chalky looking cere with a definite whitish cast. From the color, your baby looks to be a boy, BUT the cere seems to have the whitish cast that means female (but it could be the lighting).
If his helps here are two budgies similar in color and age.

Boy (my Sammy at 6 weeks):

Girl (his big sister):

Note that the black coloring on Sammy's beak has nothing to do with gender, though; he was just a little bit younger and hadn't lost it yet.
