The safety of cedar to repel moths

There is a hinged door closet around the corner near the family room where the birds are where, where there have been moths. I know there are cedar balls and small discs and little planks on hooks that hang in closets to repel moths. IDK if the scent of cedar is bad for the fellas. They have no way of getting to it to chew or touch. Husband cannot tolerate strong smelling things, and we keep shoes just outside the closet.

Does anyone use cedar to keep bugs away? Wasabi the big bad Amazon is very leery of insects.

as far as I can find from doing online research, it looks like it’s mostly safe as long as they don’t go anywhere near it :shrug:
