Hi! I am not sure if I am doing this correctly or not, technology stunted!

I had a 16 year old African Senegal but he passed and I was so devastated a friend of mine gifted my with two lovies. They turned 1 year old in September and turned out to be male and female. We now have 4 eggs.

I do not want babies. I bought dummy eggs to replace the eggs and I am looking for someone who can tell me when to replace with dummies. I have been told two opposing ways....1) replace as she lays, 2) wait until the whole clutch is done. Has anyone used this method of birth control for their lovies?

Thank you, princessbella. I already have the dummy eggs from that site. I just was wondering if anyone has physically done this with their birdy(ies).

Thank you again, yes, I miss my Senegal dearly.

Welcome to the forum! If you post your question under the "lovebird lane" section more of our lovebird owners might see the post, or under "breeders boulevard".

Thank you everyone. It's nice to know others who know the pain I feel is not for "just a bird".

Replace all at once. She will hopefully only lay one more egg and try to raise her fakes. If this is her first clutch, expect her skills to be zero (she may not sit on them). Are you positive you have only 1 female? Don't discount the fact that you could have two hens. Best to get a DNA run to make sure.

This is what I do also. The moment I see Luna with an eggy bum, I put a full clutch of fakes (7 eggs) in and take the real ones away as she lays them. Granted she's only laid twice and I don't know what she'd lay without them, but so far she's had a clutch of 5 and then 4. After that you just wait it out and let her get sick of them on her own.

Sherbie's on the more extreme... I ended up buying 14 eggs for her. She has cut back on her laying recently. She was egg-booty free for a solid 2 months I think. She recently laid a clutch but stopped at 5.
