This past weekend Tanya @Mystics Mom was called in to assist the police and a rescue with removing birds from a hoarding situation. There were 8 live birds and 3 bodies (these are the ones she talks about in the link below)
Deceased birds | Avian Avenue Parrot Forum
They had no food or water for possibly 7 or more days. All are underweight. The QP that Tanya is cuddling in the picture weighs in at 71 grams.
Here are the pictures :sad1:

This breaks my heart. This touches so close to home; my birds came to me from a hoarding situation. Those pictures are familiar in my mind. :sad2:

Thank you Tanya for getting the birds out of there.

Tanya you are an angel. Unfortunately, I have seen the same conditions when I was volunteering at the Oasis Sanctuary The Oasis Sanctuary . The very worst were the drug houses, especially the meth houses. You do what needs to be done and then you cry and rage afterwards. Yes, Macawnutz it changed me.

For everyone on this forum - IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING. And jump up and down screaming until something is done.

Looking at the cages was bad enough thinking the rescues were small-medium birds

Then seeing that the rescues included cockatoos just made it all worse.

It's horrible to think of the birds living in those conditions, but it's also sad to think of the person living in such a way. This didn't happen because the person didn't care about the birds, it happened because the person was ill and in desperate need of an intervention. It's a shame the birds were forced to live in such appalling conditions, but in the very least everyone is getting the help they need.

How horrible for everyone involved - both the birds and people.

I know posts like these make everyone emotional, but let's not forget that in these kind of situations, the people involved are very sick. Mental illness is a terrible thing and skews reality for many of its sufferers.

Thank you @Mystics Mom for your compassion in helping save these birds.

Tanya, you are truly an angel for helping these birds. Their conditions were deplorable. It is sad enough to see a hoarder when they are just hurting themselves but when they hoard animals, it is truly heartbreaking. Although the hoarder is responsible for this, hoarding is a sickness and I wonder if these precious birds could have been rescued earlier if a family member or neighbor just called to complain.

I saw these on FB and the very sad video Tanya posted. This is so heartbreaking. Tanya is an angel to these birds and the many she had rescued. I see her sadness, love and strength. I am sending prayers up for her and all her rescues. Thank you Tanya for all you do. Please take care of yourself!:bluhug:

The man that lived in the house got ill and was taken to the hospital, with him lived a special needs daughter. The caseworker is the one that alerted the police. All that was left of the birds that passed away were skeletons and feathers covered in spiderwebs :sad1:

OMG this is awful! I know I got a lot of birds pretty fast but I will never ever let them down like this! People take on way more than they can handle! If you can't even clean your own place how will you care for eight birds?!

Wow - just wow. Giant hugs to all involved in this rescue! I don't know what I can do to help but if there's anything you need, please say so!! Where are you located?? Do all these rescues have temporary placement? Is there a need for foster homes?
