Thanks everyone! While I realize that birds can't smile, Sydney's bright eyes beam happiness.

July 6th was Sydney's 2 year 'gotcha day'. Wow! I can't believe he's been with us for 2 years already!
Here he is today!!!

He looks good! Do you have an update on how he is doing? It was a great rescue!

@zoo mom, he really is doing phenomenally well. He still spends a good deal of time pacing, which I believe became a habit for him while living an isolated life for all those years.

He is the king of sound mimicking. Phone, power saws, refrigerator, popping sound from uncorking a bottle of wine, you name it! He doesn't really say any words other than 'hello', but the sounds he mimicks are perfection! He anticipates when certain sound will occur and then makes that sound right before.

He's a very special little guy and I am blessed to have him.

I'm so glad Sydney is doing so well

My Echo occasionally paces and does other stereotypical behaviours like rocking too. He was in a woefully small cage for at least a year before I got him. I think its very hard to break some habits

@Sarahmoluccan that makes me so sad to hear. Imagine all that time spent cramped, and in complete isolation without anything to do. It's such a testament to these beautiful birds just how resilient they are in spite of their horrid beginnings.

It is just very curious why some birds pluck and some don't. I was thinking the same thing...

Sydney is such a survivor! This thread made me so happy!

Two years already! Time sure flies!

Sydney's story will never cease to warm my heart. From a dilapidated shack full of rats and no climate control...to absolute heaven on earth. He's so lucky.
And here you thought you weren't going to keep him.

Your son and the old owner's son are heroes. They saved his life, and you filled it with love and hope.
