Well I discovered this recipe right after I got P.J. in May.

http://video.about.com/birds/Sweet-Potato-Mash-for-Birds.htm

The birds love them. We were out so this morning so I made a new batch. I modified the recipe slightly. I used red quinoa instead of white, and I added some ground flaxseed with mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, and cranberries) to both the mash and the oat coating.

I love to serve these as a quick breakfast for my birds, especially on week days when I don't have much time.

....and here are some pictures taken this morning

The flaxseed I used:

The mash mix looked like this

The oat and flaxseed coating looked like this:

....and the birdies looked like this:

Well, Tops is sitting here on my shoulder and he's been poking me since he saw the recipe. So I guess when I go out today to get more items for sprouts I must pick up a few sweet potatoes. Just one more thing on the list to do.

It does sound good and hope to let you know how my flock enjoy it tonight.

Tried the sweet potato recipe, and it's a no go with my guys. Will continue to offer it daily though (as there's a lot of it in the fridge/ freezer). My conure is the only one mildly interested and keeps eating the oatmeal, but my Pionus hasn't even looked at it. He's probably pouting because it's not his BH that he usually gets, LOL! We'll see how they like it in a couple days/weeks, goodness there's so much sweet potato mash!
