Hi friends! Our new Nanday Conure 'Tootie' has a vet appointment on Thursday for a check up anyways, but I figured I'd get your input here too. :)
He seems to have trouble gripping tightly compared to our cockatiel, and I've noticed that he has one tiny stubby back toe on a foot, and now I'm wondering if his toes are different lengths in the front as well? The rescue clipped his toenails, so I wonder if that hurt his ability to grip and climb due to the funny toes. Or maybe I'm overthinking it all. haha Very possible. He also seems to chew his toes often, more often then Tikki does. Again, discomfort from being clipped? Who knows. What do you think? Sorry for the horrible quality pics!

Nail trims can definitely make them tender for a while and make them less able to grip, especially if they're done too short. His right hallux ( the inner back toe, also called digit 1, equivalent to your big toe) looks like it might be a little misshapen to me but couldn't say definitvely from the pic--it could be positional, or his nail may have grown crooked if it was left too long without a proper trim. I think it's great you're taking him in for a check-up though! There could be some arthritis or suchlike going on.
