Hi all,
We have our sweet Teddy bird who is still under 1 year old. He has one strange thing that he does. He will land on my hand and lick my thumb. He's done it a few times now...
Any ideas?

salt lick or it's attempt at preening you.

He likes your thumb a lot and he trying to get it to reciprocate. How does he react to your thumbs and fingers during normal activities? I know when I hand treats to my birds my thumbnail is always on top and can be mistaken for a beak.

Remember not only are their tongues used for tasting, but it is also used as a finger for moving seed husks, touching things, preening things. If you have any moles your bird will most likely try to touch it and maybe even bite ! They like to explore, and they claim you as their personal playground. If he bites your nail discourage. He is most likely trying to preen you to show you he loves you :)
