You should have seen Beeper the female house finch we raised. Her first molt she looked like a brown pipe cleaner. Her adult feathers did come in very nicely though. She didn't want scritches but she loved falling asleep on my mouse hand and reaching over my hat brim to pull on my eyebrows.
