That's wonderful news and good for Sif for trying to hold food in her foot.

We picked up Sif’s sister of a feather today. It will mean keeping them apart for a while but both have had check ups/testing and are in good health. Sif also seems happy to keep away rn lol Sadly, Sif will need to return to the vet. We noticed that her pupil is occluded and not functioning as it should so she may be partially blind in that eye. All okay as she sees fine out of her left eye and just more to love about her. Here are pics of her feather sister Isen.

Time is marching on & I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas/Holiday! Sif is continuing to prove out that special needs simply means special indeed. My mother finally decided to visit Sif and was easily able to pet her along the head & back. I just couldn’t get her to understand that Sif is a baby and sticking your finger in front of her beak might result in a bite. Sif remained very quiet and respectful. Not even a hint of wanting to shy away or bite. I was very proud of her. Sadly my mother is getting older and her hearing is almost nonexistent so I’m hoping that I’ve taught my mom now that Sif is still learning & to be careful around her. Other than that it’s been a fun time in AZ picking up Isen and seeing my mom after 2 years. Hope everyone had just as wonderful a day whether just quiet or full of family!

03803EB0-F7B0-48D8-8DB5-D145D41F4B05.jpeg We have confirmed an appointment with Dr Jenkins on for next Wednesday evening for Sif’s eye. I know that nothing can be done to necessarily reverse the eye trauma, it will be about whether the occlusion is a true cataract or just permanent eye damage. In the case of a cataract we may be able to do surgery. In the case of just plain damage (which is what I suspect from her time with her mom prior to being pulled) we will just continue moving forward. Sif seems to have adapted already for the most part and is beginning to fly & land with more and more precision. She has even managed to fly to my arms twice in the last couple of days. We shall know in a week. I think everyone is looking forward to at least heading home on Saturday and putting a dry, dusty Arizona behind us lol!

Today we went back to visit with Isen’s breeders momentarily as we switched our harnesses. Sif was a good little girl. She got to view another CAG named Willie from a safe distance & showed that she is very comfortable being handed around.

Tonight as the girls were going to bed, Gma stopped by to say goodnight. Isen had a romp around Gma’s shoulders then went to bed. Sif perched on Gma’s hands for several minutes then came back to me. I have been teaching her kiss & since I had perfect control with her perched on my hand, I asked her to give Gma a kiss. She absolutely leaned forward and gave Gma a tiny kiss! We are still working on a lot of things but kisses are definitely in the “done” column. Wishing everyone a wonderful evening & good night! :)

I heard from Sif’s breeder this morning. Turns out Sif is truly one in a million. The clutch born to her parents right after Sif are completely “normal.” Sweet babies.

Sif is perfect in her imperfection & I will take her as she is to have her as my sweet, scritch-loving, chest-cuddling-any-time-I-can, baby girl!

The vet has confirmed it is a cataract & she is blind in the right eye. There is no definitive way to know whether or not it is genetic but based upon all known factors it is most likely traumatic & happened months ago which should not affect her other eye. There are also no signs that there is any other damage/issues with the eye currently so no medication or surgery is necessary. If it becomes inflamed/red/etc we will take her to a specialist but at this point there is no need. My little Sif just continues to be a special little girl! :D
